Department of Health Open Positions Available Here
ALBANY, N.Y. (May 6, 2024) – The New York State Department of Health honors and thanks the outstanding individuals who dedicate their careers to civil service during Public Service Recognition Week, observed May 5-11. During this week-long celebration, it's important to honor public employees—including federal, state, county, local, and tribal professionals—and extend appreciation for their dedication and service.
"As the State's Health Commissioner, I get to see firsthand the significant work executed by the extraordinary public service professionals at the Department of Health," State Health Commissioner Dr. James McDonald said. "This week, I encourage everyone to take a moment to acknowledge the impact made by civil service employees of all grade levels whose work improves the daily lives of people who live in the communities they serve. Please take a moment to thank a public service professional today."
This week also serves as an opportunity for the Department to remind the public that there are open positions available to qualified applicants. Employees with the State Department of Health share a collective mission to advance health equity, eliminate health disparities, and implement programs and initiatives that create a safer, healthier New York. Every day, the Department stands ready to respond to public health threats; promote healthy lifestyles for children and families; assist New Yorkers with signing up for comprehensive, affordable health insurance; further New York's mission to provide safe and legal reproductive health care to all; and improve the lives of New York's aging population and more.
Many of these positions are available without the need for applicants to take a civil service exam through the state's expanded Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide (HELPS) program. The HELPS hiring program is an expansion of the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement (HELP) program, which was developed by the New York State Department of Civil Service to streamline the appointment process to allow state agencies to hire diverse, qualified, permanent employees quickly and without examinations.
