ALBANY, N.Y. (January 23, 2024) – State Health Commissioner Dr. James McDonald today provided testimony on Governor Kathy Hochul's FY 2025 Executive Budget.
"I want to thank Governor Hochul for her commitment to supporting health care and public health," State Health Commissioner Dr. James McDonald said. "This year's budget may be summed up in one phrase: Responsible Stewardship. The Governor's budget invests in public health infrastructure, which aligns with the Department's focus on health equity, and adds funding for distressed hospitals, maternal health, children's health, primary care, oral health, combatting the opioid epidemic, and Medicaid. There are also important policy changes that will improve public health and expand access to high quality care, for example by addressing scope of practice issues in New York. We look forward to working collaboratively with the legislature to identify the best ways to enhance health care, improve health equity and eliminate health disparities."
