Asthma Control Program Statewide Contractor: Addressing the Burden of Asthma Among Children in NYS

The New York State (NYS) Asthma Control Program is partnering with the American Lung Association through a state funded contract "Addressing the Burden of Asthma Among Children," to improve asthma-related health outcomes and quality of life among children with asthma and their families and caregivers across NY's highest asthma burden areas. Work under this five-year initiative (March 1, 2023 to February 28, 2028), will focus on advancing EXHALE, a set of six evidence-based, cost-effective strategies recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) National Asthma Control Program.

Efforts will be focused in NY's highest asthma burden regions, defined by high asthma ED and hospitalization rates among individuals 0 to 24 and/or a high percentage of NYS total asthma-related ED visits/hospitalizations. Given that over 60% of NY's total asthma-related ED visits and hospitalizations occur in the Bronx, New York, Kings, and Queens Counties, ALA will prioritize implementing EXHALE strategies in these counties throughout the duration of the contract.

The American Lung Association and NYS Asthma Control Program will convene multi-sector partners under the New York State Asthma Collaborative to facilitate statewide and regional collaboration in shared efforts to expand EXHALE in NYS.
